Why Therapy?

Why therapy and why not just talk to your friends, family or trusted people around you?

Therapy is a safe, non-judgemental, and unbiased space that allows you to talk about anything and everything that may be on your mind. The therapeutic relationship is a professional one. Unlike our friends and family, the therapist brings with them years of knowledge and expertise that enables you to delve deeper into your experiences, identify and explore your emotions, thoughts, and behaviours with care, curiosity and compassion. The therapist does not just help you with problem solving, but also processing your emotions and becoming more attuned to yourself, so that through the therapeutic journey you feel more empowered to make your own decisions, give space to your feelings, and create more meaningful and healthier relationships with others as well as yourself.

Therapy recognizes the importance of having a good support system with your friends, family and loved ones, and among other goals, it also aims to help you create a healthier support system. Outside of the therapy sessions, your support system and your community are who you fall back on in times of distress.

PS - the therapeutic relationship does not replace your support system and vice-versa. Both have their own roles and can be equally important.

What can Therapy help you with?

Anxiety and Overthinking

If you are constantly riddled with "What Ifs", feeling stuck in what has happened in the past or what's going to happen in the future. Sometimes our mind can throw us in a spiral of negative thought loops and it can be hard to break that loop. These thought loops can also show up in your body like a heaviness in your chest, increased heart rate, and even a certain kind of restlessness.

Trauma and Emotional Overwhelm

If certain traumatic experiences have left a significant impact in your life and how you perceive yourself, others and the world around you. These events can show up in your day to day life like constantly being on edge, not being able to relax or even feeling overwhelmed with day to day tasks.

These traumatic experiences include but are not limited to sexual abuse, child abuse, parental neglect, emotional abuse, accidents, or even violent experiences.

Relationships and Family Dynamics

If your interpersonal relationships are causing you more distress. These could include but not limited to conflicts that go unresolved, lack of communication and understanding, unhealthy dependency on each other, loss and grief.

Burnout and Workplace Stress

If your work has become the centre of everything you do, so much so that everything else comes last, including yourself. If you find yourself not wanting to go to work or not being able to manage conflicts with your manager or team members, therapy can support you.

These concerns are not independent of each other. Many times one impacts the other. You are free to explore any and all aspects of your life in therapy.

If any these concerns resonate with you, I'm here to support you!

If you find yourself constantly doubting yourself and your capabilities that it starts to seep into all aspects of your life. Therapy can also be helpful if you're struggling with your gender identity or sexual orientation and give you space to explore these parts of yourself.
